Ambition

We all need to have a certain amount of ambition but when our ambition gets out of control, we can often lose sight of what our original intent or goal was.

Ambition can be a friend or a foe. The solution is to find our own unique balance of what matters most to us.
For some, this can be a lifelong endeavor and others may recognize early on in their lives exactly how to go after whatever it is that gives them passion.

Ambition can be the driving force of your life but is that always healthy?

Ambition can also keep you obsessed with a false sense of who you were meant to be and you may miss out on your true source of happiness because you are too busy pursuing a dream.

As Dorothy learned in the Wizard of Oz, when you go searching for your hearts’ desire you shouldn’t look any farther than your own backyard because if it isn’t there you never lost it in the first place.

Writers and Rejection

Since I lost my job over 2 years ago, I have been working as a freelance writer. It started out as a hobby and a distraction and has turned into something that I feel great passion for.

No matter what you do in this life to make a living, you may deal with rejection. It can destroy your self-confidence. Rejection can be a good thing, though. Like anything, it is how you see it.

All writers need to learn how to deal with rejection. It is inevitable that something you write will be rejected one day and in order to develop as a writer, you will need to see rejection as constructive criticism instead of taking it personally.
When some writers write, their words are a glimpse into who they are and when they are rejected, it is easy to take it to heart. Rejection can happen because someone simply does not agree with your point of view on an editorial piece. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on any given subject and this is one reason why rejection shouldn't be taken so personally.
In order to grow as a writer and to develop your own voice, you need to accept that sometimes you will get positive feedback on your writing and other times you may get extremely negative feedback. Being able to look at your work constructively and learn from criticism and rejection will make you a better writer.
