Most moms are great multi-taskers because they have to be. There is an awful lot for moms to manage. There is also an awful lot of opportunity for moms to get burned out from trying to do it all. This is why moms need to take time for themselves. Recharging your batteries is important for most adults to deal with the stresses of life but for moms it is even more important. With summer vacation upon us, the working mom has even more challenges. If your child or children are young, you can usually keep them occupied while you are working by either having them in a fun program or with a great sitter. If you work from home like I do, listening to "I'm bored" can really threaten your productivity.
As a mom of a teenager, I need to keep an eye on her and still somehow manage to work from home. If I let my guard slip, who knows what kind of trouble my teen is going to get into. Yes, unfortunately, I do not have one of "those" kind of responsible, mature teens; mine is the rebel without a cause.
I feel pressure to earn money for the household, be a good mom to my daughter and somehow find time to complete all my other daily responsibilities. Oh, yea, and find "me" time also.
Remember back to when you were growing up. Many of us had mom at home. If you will remember, aside from a summer family vacation (if you were lucky enough to have one) mom didn't spend her day entertaining you. We played outside. We got dirty. We found ways to entertain ourselves and none of it involved electronic devices. God forbid we would want to hang out all day and watch cartoons. That was not happening. Honestly when I was a kid, there was no such thing as the Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon.
Instead of trying to be superwoman, relax a bit. Don't feel pressured to entertain your children this summer. Do what you have to do, learn how to manage your time better and most of all- find time to take care of you!
