FaithFaith is not just about religion; it is a sense of confidence or trust. But what does it really mean to have faith? Is one foolish for trusting that something will turn out the way that they hope it will? We are supposed to believe that all that one needs to do is to hold onto their faith?
In this troubled world, maybe having faith is what gets someone through all the challenges that seem to be everywhere we look. If we are to believe that “things will get better” without making any effort to change our lives, will our faith alone change our dire situation?
Maybe I am lacking in faith but to sit back and hope for change isn’t working for me. One can fool themselves into believing that if they hold onto their faith and try and see the light through the darkness that the negative events in their life will disappear.
They won’t.
One can try to see the positive in a negative situation but when put to the challenge over and over again, faith can begin to diminish.
Is someone weak because they lose hope after having to struggle and fight just to get by? Or are they acknowledging their lack of power over the events in their life?
We do have the power to positively or negatively react to the obstacles that are thrown our way. We can see the good in a bad situation if we choose to. We can decide to accept that this is how it is “meant” to be and move forward.
What we cannot control is what others do and what circumstances may happen to challenge us.
Even if we consciously decide that we will not give up at some point we may need to give in. Is giving in surrendering? When we give in isn’t it saying that we have lost our faith, our hope and our trust?
This really isn't about “God” or a higher power. I am not questioning if there is one. It is about the human spirit. Are we meant to just go through life blindly believing that whatever is thrown our way, good or bad, is what is meant to be? Are we so powerless to affect any kind of change to what we feel we rightfully deserve?
Somewhere in a life full of tragedy there is supposed to be joy if you can look and see it. The person with a strong faith holds onto the belief that there is a reason for the tragedy and can move past it.
In a world where so many people seem to be suffering, is the answer in how strong their faith is? If we just had something to believe in could it see us through? How can it be enough to believe in something without seeing it happen? When it does come to pass and goes unrecognized, is that why it seems like your life doesn’t get any better? Must you surrender yourself in order to not feel like you are always being tested?
Ultimately, the answer does seem to lie in what one believes. Whether it is God or a higher power, going at it alone is not easy to do. There is more to “it” than just the struggle. There is a purpose to it all.
The person with the questioning mind may always want to know “why” but those who are strong in their faith just believe.
