Writers and Rejection

Since I lost my job over 2 years ago, I have been working as a freelance writer. It started out as a hobby and a distraction and has turned into something that I feel great passion for.

No matter what you do in this life to make a living, you may deal with rejection. It can destroy your self-confidence. Rejection can be a good thing, though. Like anything, it is how you see it.

All writers need to learn how to deal with rejection. It is inevitable that something you write will be rejected one day and in order to develop as a writer, you will need to see rejection as constructive criticism instead of taking it personally.
When some writers write, their words are a glimpse into who they are and when they are rejected, it is easy to take it to heart. Rejection can happen because someone simply does not agree with your point of view on an editorial piece. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on any given subject and this is one reason why rejection shouldn't be taken so personally.
In order to grow as a writer and to develop your own voice, you need to accept that sometimes you will get positive feedback on your writing and other times you may get extremely negative feedback. Being able to look at your work constructively and learn from criticism and rejection will make you a better writer.
