The Challenge of Motherhood

There is nothing like watching a person evolve from this tiny infant and feeling the pride that you had a part in it. When your child grows into an adult and you can look at them and say "Hey, I actually like who he/she turned out to be" and not because they are your child but because he/she really is a good human being can you feel like you did something right.

If you are at this stage in your journey as a mother, congratulate yourself for making it this far. It wasn't easy to get there. You can remember back to the early years where at times you were full of self-doubt and you wondered if you could handle this huge responsibility.

Mothers get criticized for what they do, what they don't do and everything else in between. Fathers are not kept to such a high standard. It's as if we don't expect as much from a father as we do from our mothers.

Many of us rise to the challenge, and although we are not perfect (who is?) we do our best.

Parenting is a challenge. If you learn how to listen to your instincts and not hold onto visions of being a "supermom" you will do much better. Don't think of motherhood as juggling; think of it as balancing.
Remember that you are still a woman, and if you want to be a well-rounded mom, you will not forget how to be a woman. Make time for yourself - not just today, when it is "okay" to, but as often as you can. You and your children will be better off for it.
